What is the closing date for applications for Year 7?
All applications for entry in September 2011 must be received by 26th November 2010 at the latest.
What happens after I have returned my application form and fee?
You will receive an acknowledgement of your registration and your daughter will be entered for the entrance examination. We will also request a reference from the Head Teacher of your daughter's current school.
When is the Entrance Examination?
The Group 2 Entrance Examination will take place on Friday 14 January 2011. You must indicate on your application form the school where your daughter will be sitting the examination. This is essential to ensure that the necessary arrangements are made at the school where she will be sitting the examination and that you receive the correct instructions.
Does it matter where my daughter sits the examination?
No. It does not matter where you daughter sits the entrance examination. All applications are treated equally irrespective of where the examination is sat.
What subjects will my daughter be tested on?
All applicants sit papers in English and Mathematics only.
Can I have copies of past examination papers?
We do not supply copies of past papers but we do provide a Sample Paper for English and Mathematics. Please click on the Sample Paper you require to download a copy.

Can I make an application from abroad?
Yes. Applicants can apply from abroad and arrangements can be made for applicants to sit the entrance examination at their current school. There is an additional cost if this arrangement is requested. We encourage applicants from abroad to attend an interview at the school if it is at all possible.
What happens after the entrance examination?
All applicants who meet the required standard will be invited to attend an interview with a member of staff. Applicants are interviewed in pairs and the interview lasts approximately 20-25 minutes. Parents have the opportunity to talk to the Head, the Deputy Head, the Bursar and other members of staff while their daughter is being interviewed.
Do you offer Scholarships and Bursaries?
All applicants who sit the entrance examination are automatically considered for an Academic Scholarship (10% of the fees). You do not need to make a separate application for an Academic Scholarship.
If you wish to apply for a Music Scholarship, you must complete the Music Scholarship Application form in addition to the Year 7 Application form. All applicants who meet the published criteria, and have qualified in the academic entrance examination, will be invited to attend a music audition.
Bursaries can be awarded up to 100% of tuition fees on entry at both Year 7 and Year 12. They can also be awarded during a pupil's time at Channing if personal circumstances change. In order to assess financial criteria, applicants will be asked to complete a Statement of Financial Circumstances. When considering applications the full family circumstances, not just income, will be considered.
Are applicants with a sibling already at Channing always offered a place? Siblings of current pupils are given careful consideration but they are not given priority or automatically offered a place. Each applicant is considered on her own individual merit. Sisters of current pupils will always be offered an interview.
When will we know the result of my daughter's application?
A letter will be posted to you on Wednesday 2 March 2011 with the result of your application. If your daughter is placed on the Waiting List, information about the position on the list is not given. All girls on the Waiting List are considered to have qualified for entry should a vacancy arise.
How long do I have to decide whether to accept the offer of a place?
You have to accept or decline an offer by 12 noon on Friday 11 March 2011. If you do not respond before this deadline it will be assumed that you do not want the place and it will be offered to an applicant on the Waiting List.
