Sixth Form (16 - 18)

Girls at Channing are offered places in the Sixth Form on the basis of their record in the Senior School.  Girls must pass at least 6 GCSEs at Grade B or above, including English and Mathematics.  Achievement at Grade A is desirable in the subjects to be pursued at AS Level and is a requirement for those wishing to study Mathematics.  Academic scholarships are available at 16+ on the strength of girls’ academic potential and contribution to the school community.

Sixth form applicants sit papers in three of their proposed AS subjects, where possible.  They are called for interviews with the Head of Sixth Form and the Headmistress and places are offered conditionally on the candidate passing at least 6 GCSEs at Grade B or above.  These must include English and Mathematics.  Achievement at Grade A is desirable in the subjects to be pursued at AS Level and is a requirement for those wishing to study Mathematics.  The candidate’s present school is asked for a reference and for GCSE predictions.

Completed Registration forms for entry into the Sixth Form in September 2009 should be returned by 1st November 2008 at the latest to:

Sixth Form Open Evening 2008

This year our Sixth Form Open Evening is on WEDNESDAY 1 OCTOBER at 5.30pm.  Prospective pupils and their parents are invited to look around the Senior School and the Sixth Form Centre. They can also meet the Headmistress, the Head of Sixth Form, current Sixth Form pupils and find out what Channing has to offer girls who wish to apply to enter our Year 12 to study A Levels.

During the evening there will be 10-minute talks on all the subjects offered at A Level to give students an opportunity to find out more about the subjects they are interested in studying.

The Headmistress will give a talk half way through the evening and will be available to answer questions, with other Senior members of staff when all the subject talks have finished.  Refreshments will be available during the evening.

We hope you will be able to come early, so that you have enough time to look round the school before the Headmistress speaks.

In the Summer Term visitors to the Senior School are also most welcome between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Founders’ Day.  The next Founders’ Day will be on Saturday 5 July 2008. (Please note that the school closes at 12.30pm on Founders’ Day)
