Year 6-7 Book Group
“A book is a garden, an orchard, a storehouse, a party, a company by the way, a counsellor, a multitude of counsellors.” - Henry Ward Beecher
“A book that is shut is but a block.” - Thomas Fuller
If any of the above sentiments ring true for you - or even if they toll a note of resounding disagreement within - then the new Upper School Book Group welcomes you to its next meeting! This Autumn, Channing sees the launch of this new group that aims to meet on the last Monday of every half term, with the joyous prospect of books, beanbags, bubbling conversation and a good few wedges of cake to brighten the darkening evenings. Having had one initial meeting at the start of this term, keen members have already begun to weave their way through the group’s first selection of the year: Mary Ann Shaffer’s The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. We may not be in Guernsey and we may not have potato peel pie (yet), but who knows what this book will inspire in its readers? If you didn’t manage to come along to the first meeting, don’t panic - the group is open to all pupils in Years 10-13 a well as staff and you can still read the book and come to our first official meeting on Monday 18 October in the Library, 4.00-4.45pm.
