Upper School Book Club

Book Review by Jessica Poole Mather
One of the books we read this term was 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' by Jonathan Safran Foer. It is mostly written from the point of view of a nine-year-old boy describing his life after his father died in 9/11. Throughout the book there are photographs and letters, which we thought was a good touch. Everyone in the Book Club thought it was a well written but upsetting book, although there were faults to be found with some of the other characters in the story, namely the grandparents, who a lot of us felt were a bit overdone.
The books selected for this half term are 'Cold Comfort Farm' by Stella Gibbons and 'The Shipping News' by E Annie Proux so get reading as they are two very different but very stimulating books.
