A2

The final year of English at Channing is one that allows girls to become fully mature, informed readers, with a clear sense of their own literary taste and confident critical judgement. The Wjec board (English syllabus) involves the study of The Tempest paired with Dr Faustus; and the poetry of John Donne, which students are asked to compare to previously unseen poetry in the final examination. In addition, A2 students will prepare a 3000 word coursework essay on three texts: a novel and a poetry text (currently Atonement or The Remains of the Day and Hardy’s poetry) and a text chosen – with guidance from teachers – by the student.
