Aachen Trip
On Friday 27 November, forty Channing girls, Mr Rees, Miss Wilmer, Miss Saig and Frau Stockmann set off in a state of great anticipation for the Aachen Christmas Market. After arriving at Dover we took the ferry to Calais. the crossing was quite choppy. The coach arrived at Aachen at 7am. Exhausted but excited, we set off for the market square. Frau Stockmann showed us the old spa area and Aachen's beautiful cathedral.
| We had breakfast in a little cafe opposite the town hall. The market opened at 11am. We wandered down the cobbled street practising our german on market stallholders and gazing at traditional nutcrackers, Christmas tree decorations and Lebkuchen, which is a type of gingerbread. |

The smell of roasted chesnuts and the glow of the christmas lights were very atmospheric. In the afternoon, we visited the Lindt Chocolate shop which was a perfect end to a trip which everyone agreed was "Ausgezeichnet!"
