Channing achieves Healthy School status
Channing is celebrating achieving National Healthy Schools Status this week. The accreditation was granted as a result of the school meeting 40 different assessment criteria in areas such as Personal Social and Health Education(PSHE), physical activity, healthy eating and emotional well being.
Mr Pete Gittins, Head of PSHE, said: "We had to make sure that the views of pupils were taken into account when making decisions and implementing policies – such as making the school a non-smoking site. I believe that Channing has always given a great deal of consideration to providing a safe and healthy environment for learning and I wanted this to be recognised by a national organisation. It’s like getting a Kite mark of approval. We are the only private school in our borough to get this accreditation and it has been good to work with Haringey Council, which has been very supportive. It makes sense that girls learn better when they are healthy and happy and we have had great fun organising Healthy School Weeks and other events to make this a whole- school initiative.”
