Immunisations
Parents should ensure that girls have had their pre-school boosters from their GP/Practice Nurse/Health Visitor prior to starting in Reception.
Since 2005 the BCG is no longer offered routinely. Only children with certain risk factors will be considered for the BCG. If you feel your child should have it, then you now need to speak to your GP who will complete a risk assessment and make the appropriate referral.
Nurses from Haringey Primary Care Trust come to the school to administer Diphtheria, tetanus and polio immunisations to year 10. If your child needs an MMR booster, this can also be given at this time. They will also give HPV vaccines in accordance with government policy. HPV vaccinations are offered to girls in year 8, and are organised by Maggie Bishop. If your daughter has missed one of her vaccines, please contact Maggie on 020 83655929.
All immunisations are given by nurses from Haringey PCT. Your daughter will be given a card with details of the immunisation she has been given, to bring home for your own records. A letter with these details will also be sent by Haringey to your GP. The Channing School nurses, unfortunately, are not given a record to keep.
Side Effects / Adverse Reactions to Vaccines
It is common to have some side effects from most vaccines. These can include localised swelling / redness / soreness at the injection site, headaches and nausea.
There is an on-line system for anyone to report symptoms following a vaccine, even if it is unclear whether they are due to the vaccine.
