Health Checks

Health checks carried out by the school nurses, are available to girls in Reception, Years 7, 9 and 12, and all new girls.

They are seen as a valuable tool in building trusting relationships with our health professionals, so the girls feel comfortable coming to see the nurses if they have any concerns.

Health checks in the Senior school consist of a general chat about school and family life, healthy eating and exercise, any medical concerns, as well as age-appropriate lifestyle discussions.

All girls have measurements of height and weight taken and their BMI centile is determined using the NHS Healthy Weight Calculator.

Girls in Reception and year 7 also have basic vision check.

Hearing tests can be done at any time, if either parents or teachers have any concerns. Please contact the nurses directly.

All consultations between the nurses and girls in the senior school are confidential, except where there are child protection issues. Information may be shared with the school’s pastoral team, with a girl’s permission, or with other appropriate health professionals. Results of height, weight and BMI centile are sent in a letter to parents.

Health checks are entirely voluntary. Please contact the school nurses if you have any concerns, or do not want you daughter to have a health check.
