Finance students’ dinner date
Following the success of last year’s Sixth Form Financial Services enrichment course, two students currently studying the Certificate were invited to attend the ifs School of Finance’s annual Chairman’s Dinner.
The Chairman’s Dinner, formerly The Chartered Institute of Bankers’ President’s Dinner, is one of the most prestigious events of the financial services calendar. It is attended by more than 400 of the industry’s most senior and influential personnel, and provides an opportunity to meet senior colleagues and listen to insightful, thought-provoking and sometimes controversial speeches in the sumptuous surroundings of London’s historic Guildhall.
Year 12 students Elizabeth Wright and Catherine Penn and Head of Sixth Form, Ms Newman attended the evening, which was held in the London’s Guildhall on Tuesday 13 May 2008. On arrival, they enjoyed a champagne (and orange juice) reception in the Art Gallery before all the guests were called to a five-course dinner in the Great Hall.
Sharing a table with Bancroft’s School, Lizzy and Catherine were able to talk over the ‘Making Financial Judgments’ examination paper, which they had taken earlier in the day. Also seated at the table was a Ms Latter, who works for HM Treasury, who offered an insight into the workings of the Treasury and the current ‘credit crunch’ crisis.
The evening also provided an opportunity to catch up with Rod McKee, head of financial capability, who earlier in the school year presented Victoria Lawson with a cheque in recognition of her highest mark nationally for the certificate. An enjoyable evening was had by all!
