What is the Channing Association?
When your daughter joins Channing, you automatically become a member of the Channing Association (CA).
The CA was formed to bring the school and parents closer together. We do this by running social events throughout the year, attended by teachers and parents alike, such as our popular Spring quiz night. We also organise family events, like Channing fireworks night (Saturday 3 November). A social highlight for your daughter is likely to be the Year 7 & 8 Prom next March. We’ll need parent ‘bouncers’, so look out for our emails!
How do we support Year 7 parents?
It’s always useful to know other parents in your child’s year. So, on Friday 8 September we’ll host a special Year 7 Parents’ Coffee Morning at Channing to introduce you to other parents in your child’s form and your postcode area.Your form rep will organise further parent socials throughout the year.
Does the CA raise funds for the School?
CA events are not primarily profit-making. Any surplus funds are donated to school projects that benefit the girls. We helped pay for a school minibus (the ‘Chan Van’) and one of the new music rooms. We are the proud sponsors of the foyer of our fantastic new Performing Arts Building.
Three ways to get involved:
- Become your daughter’s new form rep. Each class has 1/2 reps who organise parent coffee mornings/socials.
- Join the CA committee or an event sub-committee. The Channing Association only meets once a term. Organising sub-committees are set up to run each event. All are very welcome to attend and join in.
- Offer to help at a CA event. Even if you don’t want a formal role, we rely on parent volunteers to set up / serve drinks / do security at events on an ad hoc basis.
