We were one of the first (if not THE FIRST) schools in the country to take an overseas trip this academic year, thanks to the determination of the organising staff and tour company. The half-term destination was Croatia and, goodness, was the bar set high – knockout scenery with an added luxury of three large rehearsal rooms!! The trip proved to be just the tonic needed to revive music ensemble skills and even more importantly, the mixed year social groups that were formed. You know you are onto a winner when comments heard throughout are ”this is the best trip ever and I’ve done 13 school trips”, “magical” and “brilliant” and when your charges are still singing on the coach on the way back to the hotel after supper!
Klis Fortress, one of the locations from Game of Thrones, Skradin and the Krka National Park, an area of outstanding beauty, may make the trip sound more like a holiday but the deliberate change of format – rehearsing 9am-midday each day – ensured that a huge amount of high-quality music-making, learning and experiences were happening. This structure has much to recommend and the girls blossomed in front of our eyes!
Split Concert Hall, completely renovated back to its former glory in 2020, was a glorious performance space and the performers surprised themselves by what they had managed to achieve. Here are two links to the audio and a video of that concert: Audio of Split Concert Hall concert and Video – concert in Split Concert Hall.
