Music at Lunchtime – Friday 4th March 2022

An eclectic mix of musical styles produced a fabulous musical experience for those in the Arundel Centre for last Friday’s lunchtime recital. We started with two very different pieces from Year 7 students with Evangelina U’s stylistic rendition of the Cranberries hit, ‘Zombie’, followed by Ella B’s delightful playing of Chopin’s Mazurka in g minor. Elizabeth B-R and Anna R-B from Year 8 delighted us with the latter singing ‘Wishing you were somewhere here again’ with real passion and then Anna’s sparkling yet ‘smouldering’ realisation of Bernstein’s jazz number, ‘Red white and blues’. Hannah D in Year 10 sang Ira Gershwin’s ‘Long ago and far away’, really capturing the mood of the song. Our final two performers to Year 13 delighted the audience with firstly ‘Piéce en forme de Habanera’ by Ravel, played with a hauntingly beautiful tone from Alia K, and then Charlotte W completed today’s recital with a piece generally associated with fiery and virtuosic violin playing – Czardas, by Monti, Charlotte, however, provided just as much fire and virtuosity on the saxophone; what a way to end!
