European Parliament Visit

European-Parliament

As part of the European Parliament Ambassador schools programme, we were able to visit the European Parliament in Brussels in accordance with the Lux Audience Award. Prior to the award ceremony we heard from the director of the film “Alcarràs” which was nominated for the award. She spoke about both the political motifs of the film, and the production. After a break we were taken to the hemicycle for the ceremony. We had the privilege of hearing a speech from the president of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, in which she paid tribute to all the

nominees and spoke about the importance of European identity within the film industry. The winning film was “Close” directed by Lukas Dhont who gave an emotional speech about queer censorship in many EU countries and how his film provides invaluable representation for many young people across the EU. The next day started with a workshop led by together.eu in which we discussed ways to increase political involvement with an emphasis placed on young people. This was concluded by a visit to the Parlamentarium, where we were able to enrich ourselves with the history of the EU. This trip was such an amazing opportunity to learn about the EU and we were lucky enough to be joined by Mr Waring and Ms Hernandez, to whom we are very grateful.
