Listen on:

In the latest episode of Chatting with Channing, we’re joined by two remarkable alumnae, Maddy Hookway and Saskia Steinberg, who return to the school as part of Rosie Peto Day — a celebration honouring their late friend and fellow student. In a heartfelt conversation, they reflect on their time at Channing, the enduring friendships they forged, and the emotional journey of making their short film Type of Rain.

Type of Rain is a moving exploration of teenage grief and healing, inspired by the loss of their friend Rosie. In this conversation, Maddy and Saskia share the story behind the film’s creation — from the unexpected inspiration in a screenwriting class, to filming on the anniversary of Rosie’s passing, to premiering at the BFI Film Festival. They open up about the challenges of producing a short film with limited resources, and the creative decisions that shaped its impact.

The episode also highlights how cold-water swimming became a deeply personal form of therapy — both in real life and within the film. Maddy and Saskia speak candidly about the therapeutic process of storytelling, and how their film has sparked connection, reflection, and healing for audiences around the world.

Above all, the discussion underscores the power of community, the lasting legacy of Rosie, and the ongoing collaboration between the two filmmakers as they continue to craft meaningful stories.
