On the final day of the last half of term, we had a special Music Theatre edition of our lunchtime recital. Seven of our students, who had taken Music Theatre examinations earlier in the week, each performed one of their songs.
Maya S opened the recital with a wonderful, character-filled performance of “If I Only Had a Brain” from The Wizard of Oz. Sophie C followed with a heartfelt rendition of the classic “Where Is Love?” from Oliver. We were then transported to La La Land with Ariella B delightfully singing “City of Stars”.
The recital then returned to classical repertoire with Mozart’s opera, The Marriage of Figaro, as Maika P-Y gave a stylistically nuanced and technically stunning performance of “Voi che sapete”. Two Year 8 students continued the showcase: Lara G performed “Colours of the Wind” from Pocahontas, delivering a beautiful and passionate interpretation, and Ellie M provided an absolutely stunning and hilariously staged rendition of “Money, Money, Money”—quite the showstopper!
The final number was the stand-alone musical theatre piece “Taylor the Latte Boy”, sung with superb characterisation and excellent vocal control, eliciting laughter and rapturous applause from the audience.
We had yet another large and enthusiastic audience for today’s magical recital—only two more performances left before the end of the school year. Do listen:
