Year 10 Concert – Tuesday 13th January 2026

Posted: 16th January 2026

On Tuesday evening, sixteen talented musicians from the two GCSE Music sets took to the stage in the Arundel Centre for a wonderfully varied and enjoyable concert. Although a seasonal flu bug sadly prevented a few students from performing, those who were able to take part more than made up for it with an evening of impressive and inspiring music.

The concert opened with Edlyn B, who set a high standard straight away with a delightful and confident performance of a Telemann Fantasia on the violin. She was followed by Sofis S-J, whose beautiful voice shone in a heartfelt rendition of the much-loved title song from The Sound of Music. Avina E then brought great energy to the piano with a lively and exciting performance of Yuyama’s Pop Corn. Next, we heard from the first of our two bassoonists, Imogen, who played Wechter’s Spanish Flea with great skill and character.

Arya B followed with a soulful and beautifully controlled performance of Victor’s Piano Solo from Corpse Bride, leading seamlessly into a sparkling and vivacious rendition of Nielsen’s Spilleværket by Farah P. Yasmin L continued the evening with a truly impressive violin performance, playing Brahms’ Scherzo entirely from memory and wowing the audience with her confidence and musical maturity. Our second vocalist, Margot L, then delivered a stunning and heartfelt performance of So in Love from Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate, full of emotion and style.

The piano performances continued to impress, with Aurora V giving a stylish and assured rendition of Lowside Blues by Joanna MacGregor. Emma L, our second bassoonist of the evening, tackled the notoriously tricky Teddy Bears’ Picnic by Bratton with charm and precision. Elene K followed with a gorgeous performance of Nadia Boulanger’s Nocturne for flute, played with poise, sensitivity and superb musicianship.

The audience was then treated to a thrilling piano performance from Hero K, who played Granados’ Andaluza—one of her recent Grade VIII exam pieces—with flair and confidence, having recently achieved an excellent Merit. Juliet K brought great rhythmic drive and panache to Gonzaga’s Tamoio on the clarinet, before Eliana P raised the temperature with a superbly “steamy” rendition of Bernstein’s Red, White and Blue on the trumpet. Zara A followed with a confident and accurate piano arrangement of Adele’s Easy on Me, played with real assurance.

The concert concluded beautifully with Sofia N D on the cello, performing the much-loved Londonderry Air with a wonderful sense of style, expression and musicianship. Congratulations to all our performers for such a fantastic evening of music—you can be very proud of yourselves! Do watch the concert!
