A Golden Year of Sport: Triumphs, Trophies and Masterclasses
What a sensational year of sport it has been! From the mud of the cross-country trails to the prestigious pitches of St George’s Park, our athletes have pushed boundaries, shattered records and brought home an incredible haul of silverware.
Our runners set the pace early this year with some breathtaking performances. At the Haringey Cross Country event, our Years 5 and 6 team ran a superb race to clinch second place out of sixteen schools. A special mention goes to Emily S (Y6), who finished an outstanding third out of 119 runners, earning her spot to represent Haringey at both the London Youth Games and the London Mini Marathon. She wasn’t alone in her marathon success, as fourteen of our pupils conquered the London Mini Marathon, completing a thrilling 2.6km dash from Horse Guards Parade to the official finish line. In other running news, Rachel K (Y4) showed incredible grit to secure a fantastic third place in the UCS U8/9 Cross Country race.
On the football pitch, it has been an absolute masterclass of a season across all age groups. The unstoppable U11 Football Squad was crowned winners of both the St Mary’s & St Christina’s Tournament and the GSA Football Festival in Warwick. They also took home the Plate at the Prep4Sport Tournament at St George’s Park and secured third place at the U11 IAPS Tournament. Most excitingly, after a brilliant second-place finish at the ISFA Tournament at Ardingly College, the U11s qualified for the National Finals at St George’s Park this June. Our younger stars also shone bright, with the U8s winning all three of their debut fixtures, while the Year 3 and 4 team took a stellar second place at the London Youth Games Qualifier.
On the court, the powerhouse U11 Netball Squad officially won the North London Netball League and placed a commendable eighth out of thirty-two teams at the competitive IAPS Tournament. In Hockey, players enjoyed a significantly expanded fixture list, highlighted by an unforgettable, inspiring masterclass from GB Hockey star Martha Taylor.
Beyond the main fixtures, our sports programme truly offered something for everyone. Our Gymnastics and Cheer squads dazzled audiences at their Spring Showcase following several podium finishes at multiple gymnastics competitions. As the weather warmed up, Year 5 and 6 took to the water for Summer Term watersports sessions, mastering kayaking, paddleboarding and canoeing. We also hosted a fantastic, inclusive multi-sports afternoon with Chelsea’s Cameron Vale School.
Ultimately, our main goal this year was participation, and we delivered by providing competitive fixtures for every single pupil in Years 3, 5 and 6. This drive has sparked a brilliant trend, with a rise in our pupils joining external clubs.
