Chatting with Channing: making a difference through social impact

Posted: 8th October 2026

What can a weekly mentoring session mean to a younger pupil – and to the student supporting them?

In the latest episode of Chatting with Channing, we explore how bursaries, community partnerships and the Education Plus Alliance put Channing’s values into action.

Mrs Grace Mitchell, Development Manager, and Ms Jennifer Kung, Director of Social Impact, join two Year 13 students to discuss the Social Impact Fund and the relationships at the heart of this work.

The students share their experiences of volunteering at the HNCP Hub, supporting younger pupils with their learning and enjoying sports together. They reflect on the skills they developed along the way, from adapting their communication to approaching challenges with greater patience and understanding.

For Ruby, watching the younger pupils grow in confidence was particularly rewarding. The conversation also explores what those relationships mean to families: time to talk, individual encouragement and an older mentor who understands school life.

As Ruby recalls Leila saying: “These experiences shape you in ways that are difficult to describe, but impossible to ignore.”

Mrs Mitchell explains how the Social Impact Fund supports bursaries and community partnerships, and how families, alumnae and friends of Channing can contribute. Alongside donations, sharing time, ideas and connections can help this work grow.
