Assistant Director of Music
An enthusiastic, experienced and dynamic Assistant Director of Music is required to start in January or April 2025 (dependent upon the right candidate’s availability). This position would suit experienced, well-qualified Music teachers who have ambitions to lead their own faculty.
The Assistant Director of Music will support the Director of Music in delivering Music throughout the Senior School, both within the classroom as well as in the extensive co-curricular music provision. They will teach class music lessons from Year 7 to Year 13 (including Oxbridge preparation). Music is compulsory in Years 7 & 8, and optional in Year 9 alongside other creative arts. We currently use Pearson Edexcel for GCSE and Eduqas for A level, with one set at each of GCSE and A level.
The standard of music throughout the school is extremely high and this post is a wonderful opportunity for the successful candidate to work with some very talented musicians. The Assistant Director will play a full role in the Music Department’s extensive co-curricular programme and will have the opportunity to direct ensembles and to initiate other ensembles or groups as appropriate. Keyboard skills are highly desirable and the ability to accompany high-stakes solo performances such as A Level/GCSE recitals and at regular lunchtime recitals would be an advantage.
The successful applicant will be an excellent classroom practitioner. Applicants should demonstrate a deep love of music, an enthusiasm for communicating this to pupils across the school and high expectations of pupils’ approach to music, performance and learning. Working closely with the Director of Music the successful candidate may have the opportunity to take strategic ownership of an agreed part of the curriculum, though this is not a core requirement of the role.
