Main duties and responsibilities:
Safeguarding
- To act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSL) support the DSL and deputise in their absence to ensure safeguarding and child protection procedures (including online safety) are followed. DDSLs are expected to be Level 3 Safeguarding trained and to keep themselves abreast with recent developments in Safeguarding. It is expected that they may act in an advisory capacity for other staff and carry out actions as directed by the DSL, including taking responsibility for individual Safeguarding cases, as well as attending regular meetings of both the Safeguarding Team and the Safeguarding Committee.
- To attend the weekly safeguarding meeting
- To manage referrals as directed by the DSL
- To liaise with agencies such as the local authority, CAMHS, hospitals etc.
- To meet regularly with pupils who are being monitored for Safeguarding concerns
- To liaise with parents as and when required and as directed by the Deputy Head
Pastoral Support
- To support Heads of Year in their support for children with mental health concerns.
This could include but is not exclusive to:
○ Organise regular catch up sessions with individual children and support their wellbeing
○ Attend parent meetings alongside Heads of Year if invited
○ Liaise with external agencies such as CAMHS under the guidance of the Deputy
Head
○ Liaise with Heads of Year to support pupils on Time Out or similar
- To be prepared to contribute to further developments of the school’s pastoral provision
- To support the Senior Deputy Head in training staff in pastoral and safeguarding matters
- To attend regular meetings with the wider pastoral team and the Deputy Head including
- but not exclusive to the weekly Wellbeing Meeting which includes the School Nurse,
- Lead Counsellor, Head of SEND as well as the Deputy Head
- To attend weekly meetings with the Heads of Year and Deputy Head
- To contribute to daily alternative lunch provision, liaising with the Head of SEND
- To act as the local expert on disordered eating and self-harm
- To support pupils with disordered eating, developing systems to support their eating in
- school
- To support HoY with pupils who have higher than normal risk profiles and/or pastoral
- needs
- To act as wellbeing support for pupils during formal investigations
- To organise whole school wellbeing events such as ‘Wellbeing Week’
- There is an opportunity to contribute to the school’s wellbeing provision by introducing
- form time activities or assemblies on relevant topics
- To communicate effectively using school systems including CPOMS and to keep
- meticulous records
Attendance
- To monitor attendance daily, weekly and termly, reporting to the Deputy Head on pupils
- with high absence rate
- To work with parents to improve attendance for those struggling
- To support HoY to implement strategies for pupils with low attendance
- To be prepared, in exceptional circumstances, to visit students at home to discuss
- strategies to improve attendance
Other
- To organise parent events to educate on pastoral and safeguarding matters
