Channing is consistently recognised as one of the best independent schools in London; an independent school for girls aged 4 to 18, based in Highgate, North London, where every pupil is encouraged to discover their interests, develop their talents, and build lasting friendships. Our inspiring environment fosters academic achievement and personal growth.
The school actively prepares pupils for the future.
A visionary all-girls school full of extremely confident, capable and engaging young women.
‘Fearless’ teaching and learning, encouraging girls to step out of their comfort zone and be ‘10 per cent braver’, is reaping academic rewards. It is a useful life lesson too, but not at the expense of school being fun.
Excellent academics, fantastic pastoral care and a wonderful way of imbuing girls with self-confidence, Channing makes a strong argument for single-sex education.
Girls throw themselves into all aspects of school life, and teacher commitment goes way beyond the classroom.

Our final Music at Lunchtime of the year was one for the history books! This highly anticipated concert drew a huge turnout from across Channing, including pupils, teachers and even catering staff. The Wock Band performed covers including Seven Nation Army and Smells Like Teen Spirit, alongside standout originals. A brilliant celebration of talent and teamwork! You can listen back to their full concert on our SoundCloud!
On their last day in Cádiz during Enrichment Week this half term, Year 8 Spanish had their departure ceremony, enjoyed a flamenco class, a paella workshop, and a Spanish lesson, and wrote postcards in Spanish to teachers back at school. They then enjoyed eating the delicious paella they had made before flying home. Year 8 had a fantastic trip and loved exploring a beautiful part of Spain, immersing ourselves in the culture, and speaking lots of Spanish!
It was a privilege for Channing to attend the 120th anniversary of the British Council’s Language Assistants’ programme hosted by Darren Paffey MP at the House of Commons and to meet Éléonore Caroit, the French Minister Delegate for Francophonie, International Partnerships and French Nationals Abroad and the @britishcouncil CEO, Scott McDonald, who emphasised the importance of cross-border learning, collaboration and cultural exchange as a soft power essential to improving global understanding. We are fortunate to host French, German and Spanish Language Assistants every year at Channing who share insights into their language and culture with all our linguists in Year 10 and above. We look forward to their arrival in the Autumn.
Year 4 pupils have created their own mini masterpieces based on the theme of trees, inspired by a variety of artists including the late, great David Hockney.
On Tuesday 23 June, we hosted our first-ever interschool Morning of Dance.
Bringing together dance students from four schools—Channing, City of London School for Girls, Queen’s College and North London Collegiate School—the energy in the Sports Hall was electric.
The morning featured two incredible 75-minute workshops led by leading industry professionals. Students first took centre stage with West End performer Emma Jones for a high-energy Musical Theatre workshop, followed by a deeply expressive Contemporary Dance session with Sarah Poekert, Artistic Director of Thrive Dance.
Each session concluded with an invaluable Q&A, giving students an insight into the professional dance world.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and left the hall feeling inspired, energised and ready to keep moving.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the morning possible and such a success. We hope it will be the first of many!
