Channing is consistently recognised as one of the best independent schools in North London; an independent school for girls aged 4 to 18, based in Highgate, where every pupil is encouraged to discover their interests, develop their talents, and build lasting friendships. Our inspiring environment fosters academic achievement and personal growth.
The school actively prepares pupils for the future.
A visionary all-girls school full of extremely confident, capable and engaging young women.
‘Fearless’ teaching and learning, encouraging girls to step out of their comfort zone and be ‘10 per cent braver’, is reaping academic rewards. It is a useful life lesson too, but not at the expense of school being fun.
Excellent academics, fantastic pastoral care and a wonderful way of imbuing girls with self-confidence, Channing makes a strong argument for single-sex education.
Girls throw themselves into all aspects of school life, and teacher commitment goes way beyond the classroom.

2025 - 2026 Highlights: Art
Art at Channing has enjoyed another vibrant year of exhibitions, gallery visits and success. GCSE pupils and A Level students presented ambitious, individual work in the annual summer art exhibitions, creating a professional gallery experience across several spaces at Channing. Sixth Form students explored thought-provoking exhibitions at the Wellcome Collection, the British Museum and the Royal Academy, gaining new ideas and creative inspiration. Channing pupils also achieved excellent results in the Young Art competition, with 6 works selected for the Here and Now exhibition at Christie’s and Izzy winning the prestigious Rector’s Prize. Together, these experiences celebrated creativity, originality and artistic development.
Year 10 students had a marvellous time exploring the once divided city of Berlin. The varied programme included not only key historical monuments such as the Brandenburg Gate, but also a close encounter with the Stasi (at the Museum) and a flak tower, the Topography of Terror, the remains of the Berlin Wall at the East Side Gallery, the Sachsenhausen concentration camp memorial, the DDR Museum and a visit to the Staatsoper to see Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Our Germaniists also heard the fascinating insights of Channing contacts from East and West Berlin who lived through divided Germany.
Congratulations to Year 10 for their interest and ambition - they were an excellent group to travel with.
Channing pupils won at the national finals of the TeenTech Awards. Team Sakai Clear, won the Food and Retail Category. Their innovative solution and exceptional presentation captivated the judges, who described it as “the best presentation we have ever seen.” They were also recognised with the Ethical Thinker Award. Congratulations to the team!
For the Year 9 History Journal, Thomasina investigated whether the arrival of the Prussian army was the main factor in Napoleon’s defeat at the Battle of Waterloo. She explores how Field Marshal Blücher’s troops strengthened Wellington’s forces, attacked Napoleon’s right flank and forced him to divert vital reserves away from his main assault.
