We were treated to a fabulous first recital of the academic year last Friday. We began, very appropriately, with a female 19th-century composer of the piano – Fanny Mendelssohn (sister of Felix Mendelssohn) played superbly by Elene K. Elene was the first of four Year 7 students giving their debut performance on the Arundel Centre stage after just over a week at the Senior School! Yasmin L (Y7) then played a rondo by Seitz with great virtuosity on the violin. It was then a delight to welcome Eliana P (Y7) to play Bragtime by John Frith on the trumpet – what a stylish performance! Hero K was the last of our Year 7 students and she played the delightful Etude by Schyte on the piano, again showing off real pianistic skill and musicianship. Certainly four musicians destined to be rising stars! Evangelina U then gave us a lovely rendition of Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ – again displaying her wonderful vocal talent. The finale was a quartet of Year 11 students performing a mash-up of songs by Adele; we had Scarlett D and Sophie D on vocals, Galya H on the keyboard and Maddie S on the acoustic guitar. They were superb!
A thoroughly splendid start to the new season and with a huge audience that included some parents.
