What an exciting conclusion to a wonderful series of Music at Lunchtime concerts this term! The concert featured a varied programme, beginning with the debut performance of the new Contemporary Ensemble directed by Mr Thorpe. The band, which only started after the half-term break, played an original arrangement of Kate Bush’s ethereal 80s pop hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ with the confidence of a seasoned rock band. This was followed by Year 7 vocalist Rory M’s delightful rendition of ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’. Georgie M in Year 8 then took to the stage to deliver an impressive performance of Vincenzo Bellini’s ‘Deserto è luogo’ on the clarinet. Roma Cafolla’s ‘Seahorses’ was then performed by Year 9 flautist Stevie B played with great control and musicality. Katherine R in Year 12 then performed a hauntingly beautiful version of Teleman’s ‘Aria’ on the bassoon, leading to our final performance of the year – Cellist Flora G in Year 9 performing ‘Allegro Appassionata’ by Saint Saëns doing full justice to the title of the piece – a truly fitting ending to a fantastic term of Friday lunchtime performances.
