Carol Concert 2024

Posted: 11th December 2024

On Monday, we gathered at St. Michael’s Church for our annual Carol Concert, which this year was a particularly special event. The theme of ‘The Word’ shone throughout, with thought-provoking readings carefully chosen by Mrs. Wilkinson and beautifully read by the team of readers: students Esme E, Greta P, Emma L, Susie D, Anna R-B, Aimee R, and Eve J, selected by Ms. Kanmwaa.

This theme was further reflected in the medieval writings set to music by Benjamin Britten in his Ceremony of Carols, which was performed in its entirety throughout the concert. Accompanied by renowned harpist Sioned Williams, who captivated the audience with her spellbinding harp solo, Interlude, the concert was a true celebration of Britten’s music.

The Chamber Choir led the combined choirs of Cantemus Chorus, Conabor Choir, and Brunner Show Choir, showcasing the beauty of Britten’s compositions. Special mention must go to the Chamber Choir, who shouldered much of the work, beginning with the haunting candle-lit processional of ‘Hodie.’ Solos were performed by Bella K, Bela R, Evie M, Hannah D, Georgie G, Sophie D, Scarlett D, Eliza C, and Lauren S.

Congratulations are due to Miss Jenny Bacon, our Head of Vocal Studies, for her superb training of the Chamber Choir and Cantemus Chorus. It was also a poignant event for our Year 13 students, marking their final Carol Concert. This sentiment was especially true for Miss Leisha Zanardo, who led her extraordinary Brunner Show Choir for the last time on Monday.
