Professor Tracy Borman’s Insightful Lecture at Channing

As part of the Channing History Lecture Series, renowned Tudor historian Professor Tracy Borman delivered her first annual lecture at Channing on the subject of Thomas Cromwell and his role and influence in Tudor politics. Known for her expertise in this era, Professor Borman captivated the audience with her insights into Cromwell’s complex political strategies and his rise to power under King Henry VIII. Her lecture shed light on Cromwell’s lasting impact on Tudor governance and how his reforms shaped the future of the English monarchy.

Professor Borman is also the namesake of Channing’s A Level History Award, The Tracy Borman Women Making History Prize, which honors the achievements of women in the field of history. Her distinguished career spans multiple roles, showcasing her contributions to heritage and education. She is the Chief Historian for Historic Royal Palaces, the charity responsible for preserving significant historic landmarks, including Hampton Court Palace, the Tower of London, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, the Banqueting House Whitehall, and Hillsborough Castle. In addition to her role with the palaces, she serves as the Chancellor of Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln.

In 2024, Professor Borman was recognized for her outstanding contributions to heritage and history with an OBE (Order of the British Empire) in the King’s Birthday Honours. Her prolific writing career includes several best-selling books on Tudor history. Her most recent publication, Anne Boleyn & Elizabeth I: The Mother and Daughter Who Changed History, explores the extraordinary bond and political legacies of two of England’s most iconic women.

Following the lecture, Professor Borman mingled with students and parents at a reception, where she signed copies of her books and engaged in lively discussions over wine and nibbles. The event was a resounding success and further cemented Channing’s commitment to fostering historical scholarship and celebrating prominent figures in the field.
