Music at Lunchtime – Friday 25th April 2025

Posted: 30th April 2025

This inaugural Summer edition of Music at Lunchtime also happens to be the last for many of our musical Year 11s (of which there are many!).

Lucia K in 11HWo kicked off this special Year 11 vocal concert with The Water is Wide, which was sung with not only perfect musical clarity, but Lucia also went the extra mile and conveyed the emotion of the piece spectacularly.

Next up was Sylvia B in 11HWo, singing There’s a fine, fine line from Avenue Q, a vocally demanding and tender song sung with meticulousness and grace. Her voice adapted to the lower and higher sections of the piece seamlessly — well done, Sylvia!

Martha R and Nadia Z, both in 11DK, sang us Bags by Clairo, which was accompanied by Martha herself on the guitar. These two voices were in perfect harmony with each other, which is no easy feat! They each captured the sweet yet flawless tone of Clairo herself, yet made it distinctly their own. Our very own Channing indie stars!

After that, Stevie B in 11HWo sang Being Alive from Company, another wonderful musical theatre performance! Stevie has a wonderful bell-like quality to her voice, which gives it beautiful clarity of pitch and perfect diction.

Then Alice M in 11HW sang A Part of That from The Last 5 Years, which was clearly a carefully selected song that suited her beautifully strong voice. She sang with such confidence and tenderness that all in the audience were awestruck, and transported to the scene of the song!

Finally, Maya C sang She Used To Be Mine from Waitress, which demands both gentle head voice and mournful chest voice. The heart-rending emotional journey of this song is one that, when done justice, leaves many in the audience more than teary, and Maya completely perfected the emotional impact. Looking forward to seeing her on Broadway one day!

What a talented cohort — they will be sorely missed this term, and a huge good luck to these wonderful Year 11s who are going to smash their exams! Hopefully we’ll be seeing them all next year for what is sure to be a brilliant musical with these extraordinarily talented performers.
