Dear Parents and Carers
It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back to the Junior School for the start of the 2025–2026 academic year. The school is already buzzing with energy and excitement as the girls – and staff – settle back into routines and reconnect with friends, ready to embrace all that lies ahead.
One of my favourite moments from the first morning was watching our Year 6 girls gently helping the new Reception girls make their way down the path into school. I felt so proud seeing their kindness and care on display. It doesn’t feel so long ago that those very girls were in Reception themselves. I can still vividly picture them on their own first day, small hands clutching book bags and faces full of curiosity. To see them now, stepping confidently into their final year of the Junior School with such empathy and maturity, was incredibly moving.
It was also an absolute pleasure to see so many of you during the morning drop-off. I am always struck by how much the girls in Years 1 to 6 have grown, not just in height but in maturity, over the summer months. At the same time, welcoming our new Reception girls serves as a gentle reminder of just how small they are as they begin their Channing journey. It is hard to believe they are the Class of 2039!
A special thank you goes to the Channing Association for hosting a lovely coffee morning in the courtyard for our new Reception parents while the girls enjoyed a slightly later start on their first day at 10am. It was a wonderful opportunity for new families to connect and begin building those all-important friendships within our school community.
For those who would like to know more about life at the Junior School or would simply appreciate a refresher, please do take a look at the latest version of our New Families Booklet.. Each summer term we provide joining parents with a hard copy, but it remains a valuable resource for all, full of helpful reminders about everything from the Channing Promise to our much-loved Channing Characters.
I have also been incredibly proud to see the way the girls have already stepped up to help our newest pupils and staff settle in. Their smiles, friendly greetings and kind support have helped make everyone feel at home from the very first day. It has also been heartwarming to hear just how excited so many of them were to be back at school, several girls (and their parents) told me they had been wearing their uniform during the holidays in anticipation!
We have a busy and exciting term ahead and I look forward to sharing it with you and your daughters.
With warm wishes for the academic year ahead
