Dear Parents
As we approach the end of the Spring Term, we look forward to our beloved annual tradition: the Easter Bonnet parade. It’s always a highlight of the school calendar, and I anticipate a delightful and vibrant display of creativity and joy. I am eagerly looking forward to welcoming the girls into school on Wednesday morning, adorned in their homemade Easter Bonnets.
In preparation for the event, I took a moment to delve into the history of Easter Bonnets, much like Curiosity Fox would. It’s fascinating to discover that this tradition dates back to the 19th Century, symbolising the renewal and new beginnings associated with both Spring and Easter. In those times, attending church on Easter Sunday was not only a religious observance but also a social affair, marked by the wearing of new clothes, including hats. Women would acquire or adorn their bonnets with delicate embellishments such as ribbons, flowers and lace, adding an extra touch of elegance to their Easter attire.
As an intriguing aside, I stumbled upon a photo from 1892 depicting a group of people sporting Easter Bonnets on Hampstead Heath (see below). It’s remarkable to see how such customs have endured over time.
To provide the girls with further inspiration, we watched the beginning of a video of the Easter Bonnet Parade in New York. It’s a spectacular event that showcases creativity and imagination on a grand scale.
I am confident that the upcoming Easter Bonnet parade will be an unforgettable and delightful event for everyone participating. Your ongoing support is much appreciated, as it contributes greatly to the magic of our gatherings.
As this is the last Bulletin before the holidays, to our Christian families, Happy Easter! To our Hindu families, a colourful and joyous Holi and we hope you welcome Ugadi with full enthusiasm, hope and fervour! To our Muslim families, Eid Mubarak!
Wishing you all a lovely holiday!
With warm wishes
