Dear Parents
I was filled with immense pride and emotion as I watched the Year 6 assembly this morning. It’s incredible to think that the girls who joined Reception on my very first day as Head of the Junior School are now such confident, articulate Year 6 pupils. It has been an absolute privilege to witness their growth and development over the years!
The girls took us on a captivating journey into the world of Ancient Greece, and the rest of the school was completely entranced. With confidence and creativity, they portrayed legendary gods and goddesses and heroic battles, and delved into timeless Greek philosophy. The performance, entitled Greeks’ Got Talent, was not only entertaining but also deeply insightful.
From Zeus’s commanding presence to the wisdom of Athena and the strength of Ares, each scene vividly brought to life myths that have shaped Western culture. I was particularly moved by their interpretation of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, where they cleverly illustrated profound themes of truth, knowledge and understanding.
It was evident that the Year 6 girls, supported by the dedicated staff – Ms Davari and Mr Westerman (Form Teachers), Mrs Mechik (Teaching Assistant) and Mrs Munro (Head of Music) – had poured their hearts into preparing for the assembly. Their ability to weave humour and historical insight while bringing complex characters to life showcased their remarkable growth, both as individuals and as a united, supportive year group. The highlight for many was their creative twist on Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’, transforming it into the unforgettable song ‘Helen’.
I am immensely proud of each pupil’s contribution to this outstanding performance. Their assembly reminded us that, just as in the myths of Ancient Greece, true power lies not only in strength, but in wisdom, courage and creativity.
We look forward to welcoming our Year 6 parents on Wednesday morning to see this fabulous assembly for themselves. It will be performed in Fairseat Hall from 8.30 – 9am. To watch your daughter’s performance, please arrive no earlier than 8.25am when you will be asked to sign in at the iron gates to be escorted to Fairseat Hall by our Specialist Teachers.
With warm wishes
Miss Dina Hamalis
