Dear Parents & Carers
It was lovely to see so many of you and your daughters at drop-off this morning after the half term break. The courtyard and playground was filled with happy chatter and smiling faces as the girls caught up with their friends. It’s amazing how many seem to have grown taller in just two weeks (or in fact three weeks as I was away on an inspection the week before half term)! It certainly feels as though everyone has returned refreshed and ready for the busy and exciting weeks ahead as we move towards the festive season.
In today’s assembly, we played a bespoke version of Guess Who? – not with cartoon characters, but with photos of our Junior School staff team! The girls enjoyed matching names, faces and roles as they discovered (or reminded themselves of) all the wonderful people who make up our school community. From our Senior Team and Form Teachers to Teaching Assistants, specialist staff, the office team, catering staff and caretakers, every adult plays an important part in ensuring that the school runs smoothly and that every girl feels safe, valued and known.
The assembly was a lovely reminder that each member of staff contributes to the caring, nurturing environment that makes the Junior School such a special place. Whether it’s a teacher helping a pupil persevere with a tricky concept, a member of the catering team offering a friendly smile, or our caretakers making sure classrooms are ready for learning, we all share the same purpose: to help the girls enjoy success, feel secure and thrive.
Tomorrow we also look forward to welcoming back Mrs Eliad (1EM Co-Form Teacher) from maternity leave, another much-loved member of our Channing community returning to help our girls continue to flourish.
We also revisited an important message about safeguarding and wellbeing – that there are many adults in school the girls can turn to if they ever feel worried, upset or unsure about something, whether at school or at home. They were reminded of the posters displayed around the school showing who they can speak to and how to reach out. While they can always start with their Form Teacher or Teaching Assistant, they know that any trusted adult in school, from the Senior Team to the office staff, will always listen and help.
A reminder that the safeguarding team consists of me, as the Designated Safeguarding Lead; Mrs Brant (Deputy Head) as Lead Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead; and Miss Kitsis and Miss Micallef (Head of Key Stages) as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. We all work closely together, liaising with the Safeguarding Team in the Senior School and are supported by our Safeguarding Governor, Mrs Anna Rentoul.
As William Ellery Channing reminds us, “Each of us is meant to have a character of our own, to be what no other can exactly be and do what no other can exactly do.” Every girl, and every member of staff, has a unique and an important role to play in our community.
I hope the girls left assembly with a renewed sense of belonging and confidence, knowing that they are surrounded by adults who care deeply about them and are always here to help in every way possible.
With warm wishes
Miss Dina Hamalis
Head of the Junior School
