Dear Parents & Carers
Happy New Year to you all! I hope you enjoyed a restful and joyful festive break, spending precious time with family and friends. The festive holidays are always such a treasured time of year and I know how meaningful it is for families to have uninterrupted time together and to enjoy being with your children away from the usual pace of term time. I very much enjoyed having the opportunity to slow down and spend quality time with my two-year-old nephew and six-month-old niece, a lovely reminder of just how magical these early years are.
For me, the start of the year has been particularly special as I finally moved into my new flat. While moving home is often cited as one of life’s most stressful experiences, I was grateful to have the time and space to unpack properly, have a good clear out, make a few charity shop runs and begin the year feeling settled and organised. It has been a welcome opportunity to pause, reflect and focus on my priorities for the year ahead, both professionally and personally.
I know that many families were also ready for the return of routine and it is always said with a smile that everyone is pleased to be back into the rhythm of school life. Despite being called the Spring Term, the weather has certainly reminded us that winter is not quite done with us yet, with rain, strong winds and even snow, and not just from our snow machine.
It has been a real pleasure to welcome back all of our Year 1 to Year 6 girls last week and our Reception girls today. The school has quickly returned to its familiar buzz of learning, laughter and energy. Last week was also a particularly joyous time for us as we welcomed many three and four year olds, along with their families, for our 4+ assessments. While these sessions are busy and require great focus from the staff team, they are also one of the most fulfilling parts of the school calendar. Meeting potential future Channing girls is always a privilege and it fills me with excitement to imagine the journeys of growth, confidence and discovery that lie ahead for them. These girls will be the Class of 2040 – quite something to think about!
As we begin a new year, we spoke in assembly today about the importance of having high expectations. This included a reminder about how we present ourselves, particularly through wearing the correct school uniform and PE kit with pride. Please see the pictures and further information below, as well as on this week’s Trilby TV slides displayed in the courtyard and around the school for the girls. Clear expectations help set a positive tone for learning and support the girls in developing responsibility and self-respect, and we are very grateful for your continued support with this at home.
As any successful school should, we are continually seeking to reflect, develop and improve the educational experience we offer, ensuring that we meet the needs of our pupils and their families as effectively as possible. To support this, you will receive a letter tomorrow with a link to the Channing Parent Survey. We very much value your open and thoughtful feedback and look forward to sharing the outcomes with you next term. Please look out for the survey link and thank you in advance for taking the time to complete it. Your views will be invaluable as we look ahead and continue to refine our plans for the next five to ten years.
With warm wishes
Miss Dina Hamalis
